United PCS, a new CTA local representing teachers at Pacific Collegiate School in Santa Cruz, won their first contract with the charter school in January. The agreement came after more than a year of frustrating negotiations, in which teachers sought fair wages and professional recognition. According to USA Today, Santa Cruz is the single most unaffordable place to be a teacher in the United States.
