California Educators Mourn in Wake of Tragic Mass Shooting

BURLINGAME – California Teachers Association President Eric C. Heins issued the following statement today regarding last night’s horrific mass shooting in Las Vegas:

“The California Teachers Association joins the rest of the nation today in grieving the tragic loss of over fifty lives and hundreds of additional injuries in yesterday’s senseless and monstrous act of gun violence in Las Vegas, Nevada. Our thoughts are with the victims, some of whom were California educators, and with their families, loved ones, friends, colleagues, and students.

“A tragedy of this magnitude once again forces teachers and school support professionals to try and answer the unanswerable, and to do our best to reassure our students, to allay their fears, to comfort those experiencing loss, and to continue to ensure that our schools remain safe places for all students. CTA will be reaching out to those schools and members impacted by this horrific event and offering assistance as the long process of healing begins.”

In the wake of this tragedy, NEA has several educator resources available to assist in helping students and parents feel safe at school.
