About the Program
The California National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Incentive Program is intended to attract and retain accomplished teachers at high-priority schools, defined as those with 55 percent or more pupils classified as English learners, foster youth, or those eligible for free or reduced-price meals. The program includes two awards:
- The Incentive Award for teachers who work at qualifying schools and hold current certification
- The Subsidy Award for teachers who work at qualifying schools and are interested in pursuing certification.
Application Deadlines
The California National Board Subsidy Award
- Eligibility: For teachers at qualifying schools who wish to pursue National Board certification.
- Subsidy Award: $2,500 paid in two installments to cover costs associated with certification.

- 2021-2022 Deadline: January 31, 2022 by 4 p.m.
The California National Board Incentive Award
- Eligibility: For teachers at qualifying schools who hold current National Board certification.
- Incentive Award: $5,000 per year for up to five years.
- 2021-2022 Application: Click here to apply.
- 2021-2022 Deadline: February 28, 2022 by 4 p.m.
Teachers will be able to apply for the Incentive Award and Subsidy Award in future school years until the $250,000,000 in funds allocated to the program are exhausted.
