Event Description
The CCA Winter Conference highlights advocacy. While we wish politics did not play a role in education, we know having effective advocacy in Sacramento, a well-informed membership, and local Boards of Trustees who support our faculty and students are critical to our success. The 2021 Winter Conference will take place virtually, January 29-30.
Some highlights include:
- Grievance Training
- Part-Time Faculty
- Unionism 101
- Social Media/Communications
- School Safety and Crisis Intervention: The Association’s Role
The Bargaining Academy and Building Strong Locals Academy will also take place in parallel to the conference.
Bargaining Academy
The Bargaining Academy is an exciting and unique opportunity designed exclusively for chapter negotiating teams, not individuals, which will run parallel to the regular conference program. The Bargaining Academy will include training on essential bargaining skills, provide up-to-date knowledge on bargaining law and district budgets, all done in a very interactive, team-based session. Bargaining Team members should have a copy of their CBA in either paper or electronic format.
The Bargaining Academy will begin on Friday, January 29, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. and end no later than 6:00 p.m. The Academy will continue on Saturday, January 30, 2021, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending no later than 2:00 p.m. Participants are expected to attend the entire program.
The Bargaining Academy is limited to the first 40 participants who register. A minimum of two participants from a bargaining team is required in order for a chapter to participate. Advance registration is required. Please complete the Registration Form and return it to Karen Boll by January 22, 2021.
Building Strong Locals Academy
The Building Strong Locals (BSL) Academy is designed to train and empower faculty members with an emphasis on strengthening local chapters. Approximately 20 faculty members from local chapters will be chosen. The primary goal of the Academy is to help prepare faculty to work in their local chapters with confidence and a working knowledge of their rights and responsibilities and to educate members to serve effectively at the local chapter level. The desired outcome of the Academy is to make our local chapters stronger by having informed members participating at each and every one of our local colleges.
Members chosen for the 2021 BSL Academy will begin their training at the 2021 CCA Winter Conference. The BSL Academy will continue at the 2021 CCA Spring and Fall Conferences. BSL Applications must be emailed to Karen Boll by 5:00 p.m. on January 11, 2021.
