Fighting for the Public Schools and Communities All Students Deserve

An educator since 1992, CTA Vice President Leslie Littman taught AP U.S. history, economics and government at Hart High School in the William S. Hart Union School District in Santa Clarita. She previously served as CTA Secretary-Treasurer from 2019 to 2023 and on the CTA Board of Directors representing District I before that.

Littman comes from a family of public school educators – her mother, two aunts, two uncles and many cousins were all public school educators. Arriving at Hart Union School District in 1994, Littman advised the yearbook class for a decade, led the school’s accreditation review twice and served as a mentor teacher to new educators.

A member of Hart District Teachers Association, Littman served as the local’s president from 2007 to 2012 and as vice president from 1999 to 2007. She won election as a representative to CTA’s State Council of Education, serving as the chair of the Credentials and Professional Development, and Elections committees. From 2003-2008, Littman also served as the Superintendent of Public Instruction’s designee on the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Littman won the NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence in the 2011-12 school year.

As secretary-treasurer during the pandemic quarantine, Littman helped guide CTA State Council’s sudden switch from massive, multi-day, in-person meetings to fully virtual, one-day affairs. While the meetings of CTA’s largest governing body changed in structure, Littman led efforts to elevate member voices, ensure all members felt seen and heard, and preserve CTA’s democratic practices.

Littman is dedicated to ensuring California educators have the tools and support they need to be the teachers all students deserve, lifting their experiences and advocating for their needs.

A graduate of California public schools and universities, Littman earned her bachelor’s degree in history and economics and master’s in education from UCLA. During her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, Legos, and spending time with friends and family, including her dog, Poppy. Littman lives in West Hills.
