Leadership, Justice, and Confronting Educational Inequities
Maripaz Berlin, a public school educator for over 18 years in Oak Grove School District located in South San Jose, is serving her first term as District B Director. District B includes chapters from Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.
Born in the Philippines, Berlin grew up in Southern California. She attended Cal Poly Pomona earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Anthropology, and later obtained her teaching credential from Cal State Monterey Bay.
Berlin has served in various leadership roles locally and statewide. She has served as president of her local chapter, the Oak Grove Educators Association, having also served as their vice president, grievance chair and membership engagement chair. Berlin also served as a State Council Delegate and an NEA RA Delegate for several years.
She co-authored two resolutions for her school district: the LGBTQ+ Resolution and the resolution denouncing hate crimes and bigotry against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Berlin served as the Women’s Advocacy Coordinator for Santa Clara County Service Center Equity Squad coordinating activities that uplift women and bring attention to ongoing issues that women face.
She is the recipient of her chapter’s WHO Award in 2018 and the State WHO Award in 2023. Berlin is an EMEID Alumna.
Berlin resides in Santa Cruz with her family.
