Leading the way to improve learning and teaching conditions 

Angela Der Ramos, an elementary educator in Alisal Union School District, is serving an unexpired term on the CTA Board of Directors that ends in June 2023.

Der Ramos is one of two at-large teachers on the Board who represent California ethnic minority educators. She has taught elementary school in Alisal for the entirety of her 26 years in education.

Der Ramos has served in a variety of roles at the local, regional, state and national levels, including on the NEA Board of Directors, as the CTA liaison to the State Board of Education, as a member of the CTA Instructional Leadership Corps, and as a steering committee member and trainer for the CTA Human Rights Cadre. She also served her local association as a site representative, parliamentarian and as chair of her local’s professional development committee.

Der Ramos also serves her local community as a school board member for Salinas Elementary School District.

She has earned numerous honors and awards for service to fellow members, students and public education, including the State WHO (We Honor Ours) Award, a CTA Communications Award for social media engagement and a local Lighthouse Teacher award.

Throughout her career, Der Ramos has fought for equal access to schools and services for all students, and worked to improve their lives inside and outside of the classroom.

“We can improve the system so it’s more equitable,” she said. “Community and living conditions are also learning conditions.”

Der Ramos earned her bachelor’s in Comparative Literature from UC Davis and her teaching credential from CSU Monterey Bay. She enjoys gardening, cooking, reading and taking care of her pets

Der Ramos lives in Salinas.
